Jonathan C. Angrist

Prior to co-founding Cognios Capital, Mr. Angrist was a Co-Owner of and Portfolio Manager at Helzberg Angrist Capital ("HAC"), the predecessor firm to Cognios. HAC was an alternative asset investment firm specializing in deep value, long/short equity hedge fund management. Mr. Angrist was also the Chief Investment Officer for Brandmeyer Enterprises, a Single Family Office from 2010 – 2019. Prior to HAC, Mr. Angrist was a Portfolio Manager for a mutual fund company, The Buffalo Funds, where he launched and managed the Buffalo Micro Cap Fund. Mr. Angrist also served as a Principal with the private equity firm Harvest Partners, Inc. in New York City. Prior to that he was a senior consultant for a leading, independent management consulting firm. Mr. Angrist's educational background includes an MBA and a B.S. (Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) from Tulane University.

Brian J. Machtley

Prior to co-founding Cognios Capital, Mr. Machtley was a Senior Analyst at Helzberg Angrist Capital, the predecessor firm to Cognios. Mr. Machtley was also the Executive Vice President for Brandmeyer Enterprises, a Single Family Office from 2010 – 2019. Previously, Mr. Machtley served as an associate portfolio manager at a Chicago-based hedge fund manager focused on micro-capitalization equities. Prior to that, Mr. Machtley worked in investment banking where he worked on a wide variety of engagements including sell-side M&A transactions, buy-side M&A transactions, business recapitalizations, fairness opinions, valuation appraisals and other financial advisory assignments. Mr. Machtley received his B.S. in Business Administration with majors in Finance and Economics from Drake University.

Chief Compliance Officer
Matthew A. Swendiman

Mr. Swendiman serves as Chief Compliance Officer for Cognios leading all compliance efforts and regulatory filings for the firm. Mr. Swendiman brings over 23 years of experience in the investment management industry, with a background in mutual fund administration, operations, legal and compliance.

Mr. Swendiman also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Key Bridge Compliance, LLC and is co-founder and Chairman of F/m Acceleration LLC, a back and middle office solution provider for registered investment advisers, including its subsidiary adviser, F/m Investments. Prior to joining Key Bridge, Mr. Swendiman founded Graydon Compliance Solutions, LLC, an outsourced compliance consultancy offering services to RIAs across the United States and in the United Kingdom; Key Bridge acquired Graydon in 2019.

Mr. Swendiman earned his BA in Political Science, as well as his JD, from The Ohio State University. While in law school, he attended the Oxford University Summer Program, and has also earned his LLM in Insurance Law from the University of Connecticut. Mr. Swendiman holds the CLU, ChFC and CFA designations.
